Motorcycles and Alex O’Loughlin

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I was walking on the 101 in Encinitas on Saturday evening with my daughter, and we saw this wacky but awesome Harley-Davidson:

Harley Davidson cafe racer     Harley Davidson cafe racer     Harley Davidson cafe racer

It has some racer stylings, monster rubber, a forward-facing exhaust, side-mounted headlight…pretty unique bike, and in person, it really looked great.  It also reminded me of Alex O’Loughlin’s custom Sporty that Cro Customs has been working on.  We’ve had some postings on it in the past (here and here), but I thought I’d check in for any updates, and sure enough, there are several.  It seems that they’ve been doing some tweaking on his bike, from the new pegs to the new seat.  They also have a posting (including pics) documenting a September visit from Alex…want to know what a nice guy Alex is?  The day after the premier of Whiteout, he stopped by the shop and ended up taking the folks there out for lunch after a cruise on their steel horses.  Avid Alex fans may have already seen all of this, but for anyone else, enjoy.

You get to mash-up a couple of photos, one of you and another of a loved one, or perhaps one of the photos might be of some good looking celebrities, one or both of whom might be starring in “The Back-up Plan” releasing on April 23, 2010?  Check it out here:

SuperBowl ad for The Back-up Plan

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Like most advertisers in the big game, CBS Films definitely attempted to appeal to the male audience, but hey, that is ok, and ideally, the fact that this movie has such broad appeal (and by broad i me crossover, not uhhh, broads.  tired joke, i know, but hey) is why it will do well. Jennifer Lopez and Alex O’Loughlin certainly get to demo their freak-out faces!

The New official site for "The Back-up Plan" Movie looks great

CBS Films relaunched the website for “The Back-up Plan” – a new, fancier flash site.  It plays like a street scene from the New York neighborhood that is the movie’s setting.  There are even games (unlock fresh clips), a widget to embed the trailer on your page, soon to be a ringtone, wallpapers, posters…basically, a whole lot of goodies.  Thanks CBS!  It is pretty slick, so go check it out:

Behind-the-Scenes Photos

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

The good folks at CBS Films are hooking everyone up with some high quality behind-the-scenes photos from the set.  These Cast and Crew photos really communicate a fun atmosphere from the set.  Alex O’Loughlin and Jennifer Lopez look good, regardless of the situation.
See the photos at the official Facebook page for The Back-up Plan.

I have them here as well, and in my imagination, they tell a little story:

Director Alan Poul shows Alex O'Loughlin the finer points of flipping the bird.

Alan Poul directs Alex O'Loughlin on who exactly to flip off. Technique is also an issue..."OK, so, yeah, that guy...No, just the one finger."

OK, Alex, nice, but this time, when you flip off the cashier, do it with more...with more feeling!

OK, Alex, nice, but this time, when you flip off the cashier, do it with more...with more feeling!

And the JLo is all like, "nah-uh, you did not just flip off the cashier, he is my boy! you're going down O'Loughlin."

The Alex's loyal friends physically subdue JLO. OK, J/K, the cast made up and now they are all freinds and Alex and Alan promise to stop flipping people off.

"OK, guys, so here's the deal (chuckle) ok (laughing) on 3, let's flip off the all the moms at the park." Ohhhh, those boys, always with the antics...

New New Release Date – April 23, 2010

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

What do you do when a (likely) blockbuster changes release dates?  Well, if it seems that it will impact your movie, then, you move your movie.  That is exactly what a bunch of studios are doing today after Warner Bros announced that “Clash of the Titans” is moving to April, 2.  If January taught anything to the studios, it is that a runaway box office success (like “Avatar”) can really negatively impact box office returns of other movies, regardless of genre.  The collateral damage really impacts the openings of these other movies, and unfortunately, opening performance still seems to define overall success for most movies.  ”Yeah, so, what’s your point?” you may ask.  Well, the end result is that “The Back-up Plan” is moving by 1 more week, out to 4/23/10 (according to an article at thewrap and the official twitter, but the official site still says 4/16).  Let’s hope it means a good opening!

Also, you know, from a marketing standpoint, it is kindof cool.  If you are familiar with the poster for “The Back-up Plan” then you know the bit with ”Fall in love. Get Married. Have a baby. (not necessarily in that order)” and it is accompanied by arrows showing that these steps have been rearranged.  I think you could do something showing that the date 4/23/10  now includes 1,2,3,4, but rearranged.  Boom, synergy!

The Taqwacores – great reviews post Sundance

Monday, February 1st, 2010

“The Taqwacores” is getting a lot of great reviews and good buzz following Sundance.  I do have one question, to which I cannot seem to find an answer: Did it sell?  That is really the purpose of Sundance, right, to get in front of people with money so they can buy and help distribute your film.  Anyway, buzz is good.  EOnline mentions it as a Buzzworthy selectionTime Out London picked it as one of the ten best of the festival.

One of controversial characters is Rebeya, played by Noureen DeWulf.  Several of the review focus in part on this character.  Many of the write ups from Sundance praise the character and DeWulf herself.  The character and actress display intelligence and understanding, as exemplified by this quote from the Park Record:

“I just love the idea of making your whole life a testament to the very thing you oppose,” DeWulf said about the character. “It’s not easy being a Muslim woman in this country post 9/11 and everybody has the right and the ability to create who they are.”

“People like to associate Muslims with a certain type of behavior and that is usually not punk rock behavior,” she said.

Congrats to everyone involved.

Jennifer Lopez introduces wacky GreenDay bit at the Grammys

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Boy, some people love Jennifer Lopez and some just don’t.  And don’t even get me started on fashion critics.  Oh, wait, i am started.  OK, anyway, I think it is just silly when people praise the start and especially designer for looking good, and then put the star on a worst dressed list when things aren’t pulled off quite right…the art was still that of the designer.  anyway, some folks are not being very nice to J-Lo, but i think she looked pretty good in Versace at the Grammy awards.

Flaunt it

Also, I am all for artistic expression whatever the form, but I am not sure how to justify and align the theory of punk rock with the spectacle of Broadway.  I just cannot do it.

Please see OnlineJLoFan and LovelyLopez for tons of photos and videos before during and after the Grammy extravaganza.

Taqwacores premiers today at Sundance!

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Good luck to all involved.  This is a pretty edgy subject matter, and is likely to push some buttons…what is interesting is that the exact buttons pressed will depend largely on the individual audience members.  Additionally, “Taqwacores” is member of the select NEXT group: “the Festival this year will also feature, NEXT (<=>), a new section composed of eight American films selected for their innovative and original work in low- and no-budget filmmaking.”

Noureen DeWulf (of “The Back-up Plan”) plays the role of Rabeya.  Her burqa features rocker patches…and the fact that she wears it onstage while playing punk music seems to be a two-way commentary on the music and religious and the traditions of each.

Best line from the Trailer (watch it here at the Sundance page…also a bit about NEXT with the director, Eyad Zahra):

“Allah is too big and too open for my Islam to be small and closed.”

Original “Due Date” Arrives

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

So today was the day we were all supposed to be able to go down to our local theater and finally get the whole enchilada.  Way back in June we posted a countdown timer and CBS Films confirmed 1/22/10 as the date to watch.  But along the way some dates were changed and the deck was shuffled.  CBS Films is launching a movie today: “Extraordinary Measures” – which we hope does quite well.  In addition to a strong cast including Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser (remember, pronounce it “Fray-zer” ha!), and the delightful Kerri Russel, the subject of the film is the (hopefully) inspriational story of a father fighting for his kids, in an unconventional, yet also conventional way.  Confused?  Check out the movie :)

They are also donating $10,000 to charity, so that should be commended, and if you have strong ties to a charity, you can nominate yours to receive the funds!

If you’re going to see “Extraordinary Measures” (or any movie), click this button to find showtimes in your area, and buy tix or gift cards:
