Metaphor for “The Back-up Plan”: Pregnancy!

June 4th, 2009

OK, go with me on this one.  It isn’t water-tight, but it is fun!  If “The Back-up Plan” happened to be a baby, would we  be on schedule right now?
Let’s do the math: Due date = 1/22/2010
That would put conception right around mid-April.  While that is not when work on this film began, it is when some things were finalized, like the name and much of the cast.
When would we know we were preggo (and especially in the case of artificial insemination, successful!)?: the mom might notice symptoms in early may, and notice a missed cycle by mid-may.  For me, this was right about the time I became aware of the film.
Where are we now?  Early June, let’s see, 7 weeks in, we should definitely schedule a doctor’s appointment.  In our movie analogue…maybe I could schedule a set visit and interview?  Nah, I’m probably not important enough.  And like a real baby, not much is showing yet (that is, we could use some more info!).  Everyone should take their vitamins today :)
What is ahead?  A whole lot of work!  While we tend to check on it daily, there are a lot of people actually working on the film every day.  They have some milestones to reach, and hopefully they are taking good care of this “baby”!  There are 33 weeks to go, which really is not that much!  and let me tell you, a lot can happen in that time.  Also, I might eat a lot.

Just think of the marketing possibilities!  There could be baby shower-type parties to launch or promote the movie, birth announcement-type mailers and packaging, delivering on posters, and…well, i’m not a marketing pro, so i’ll stop with the silly ideas and leave the good stuff unsoiled.

OK, that is it, I thought it was kind of fun.

You’re wacky, Tim, and I love your ideas! Are you sure the “due date” is Jan. 22? I read Jan. 1st, also. I also read Christmas Day, but I highly doubt that. I’d like to be sure so I can put up a countdown on my MS page.

I am not 100% sure, but I am going based on the info on IMDB, which says January 22, 2010 … it would make a good visual, 01/22/10 palindromic and all that. But, i am not sure at all. I’d like to know as well, for much the same reason. If I find out, I’ll let you know!
